No Painter ≠ No Painting

artworks produced incidentally displayed for one night only. If unsold, the artworks are destroyed or repurposed as part of the exhibition. NO PAINTER ≠ NO PAINTING is art made without intent or ownership. The first event took place in 2024 in Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa New Zealand

the work is not signed because no one owns it. No one owns it because no one intended to create it. It will not be created or destroyed like this again.

Art made without intent. An event made with the intent to destroy to make space for something else.

let's get rid of form, style, taste, technique,
the unholy brushstroke.

Forget the objective truth that eats itself like the snake that swallowed René Magritte's 'painting'. We all see the pipe René. Let’s unjuxt the position and release our grip on the self-referencing art fuckkkkkk circle jerk – because primary colours don't make black when you mix them, they make a shit-brown-purple sludge. Let’s get rid of the final hurdle: you and me.

Let’s get rid of the painter, let’s get rid of intent.

we made something. More accurately, we found it. We saw it.

What is left? Here are the unintended.

The unwanted, rubbished, soiled, over-sprayed, burned, blemished, rubbed, spilled, accidental mess.

The left-overs, created while working on something else. Something more important. Something with electronically signed NDAs. Sexual harassment training rituals and team meetings. Most importantly, something that should make profit.

These 'things' were discovered by people who are artistically inclined. Who had, or still have, artistic ambition and are working 50-hour weeks for American dollar dreams, without time to create for our own needs.

But we made something. More accurately, we found it. We saw it.

Now. What do we do?
